A property sales advisor is responsible for looking after the on-site property sales process for a company such as a property developer. This includes tasks such as setting up and maintaining show homes, handling enquiries from potential buyers and producing reports based on sales data.

How to become a property sales advisor

There are several routes to becoming a property sales advisor. There are no specific entry requirements, but you could do a college course, an apprenticeship, on-the-job training or apply to an employer directly.  

You should explore these routes to find out which is the right one for you. Although some of these options have certain qualification requirements, many employers are more interested in people who are enthusiastic, willing to learn and can follow instructions.

You may need a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card to work on a construction site.

College/training provider 

You could take a college course to give you some relevant skills, such as a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Business and Administration.

Apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is a good way into the construction industry. 

You could complete an intermediate apprenticeship to become a property sales advisor.

An intermediate business administration apprenticeship takes around two years to complete.  If your employer can provide you with the right experience, you can progress onto a Level 3 (advanced) qualification.

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16. As an apprentice, you’ll be fully employed by your company and expected to work a minimum of 30 hours a week. Your time will be split between on-the-job experience and a college or training provider.

Work

If you have some basic experience in a sales role, you could apply directly to a company to gain onsite experience as a property sales advisor. You might start out as an assistant to a more experienced property sales advisor and progress as your abilities improve.

Work experience

Work experience is essential to gaining employment within the construction industry. You could gain this at school, or by working weekends and holidays with a company or relative who works as a property sales advisor. Potential employers will always be pleased to see work experience listed on your CV.

What does a property sales advisor do?

As a property sales advisor, you will be responsible for the sale of properties. You may be required to actively attract new visitors through marketing activities, set up show homes and handle the sales of new properties. 

The role of a property sales advisor involves the following duties: 

  • Setting up and maintaining sales suites and on-site show homes
  • Attracting visitors to developments by means of marketing activities, such as leaflet drops or open house events
  • Handling enquiries from prospective buyers
  • Complying with on-site health and safety requirements
  • Liaising with financial advisors, solicitors and estate agents
  • Progressing and securing sales
  • Presenting and demonstrating the features and benefits of available homes
  • Producing sales progress reports
  • Delivering exceptional customer service.

How much could you earn as a property sales advisor?

The expected salary for a property sales advisor varies as you become more experienced.

  • Newly trained sales advisors can earn £17,000 - £19,000
  • Trained sales advisors with some experience can earn £20,000 - £25,000
  • Senior sales advisors can earn in excess of £25,000.*
